Introduction: Package Inventory (03-06)

Overview

In Tyler, you can group of a number of items together to create a package. This allows you to offer bundle pricing to your customers and also speeds up the sales process in POS Entry (02-02).

When a package item number is entered on a transaction, all of the sub-items contained in the package appear on the Detail Tab of the POS Entry screen.

The following are the types of packages that can be created in Tyler:

PKG

With a PKG package, the price for each item in the package (sub-items) is specified when setting up the package in Package File Entry & Maint (03-06-01). If the price is set to zero, the system will use the item’s current ‘Selling Price’ in Inventory Master (03-01, Field 18) when the package is sold.

PKS or XX+

With a PKS or XX+ package (where XX are any two characters and the third character is a plus sign (e.g. ‘HD+’, ‘BR+’)), the price for the package is specified in the ‘Selling Price’ field when creating the PKS package item number, or when using the ‘Start Package’ button in POS Entry to create a package on the fly. When the package is sold, the system uses the total price of the package, along with the Selling Price for each item, to automatically allocate the appropriate dollars for the sale to each item.

NOTE: When setting up a package of this type in Package File Entry & Maintenance:

  • You can enter the price for Non-Inventory sub-items (items that have ‘%’ as the third character of the product type).
  • You cannot enter the prices for Inventory sub-items.

On the Fly/Split Sale

In Tyler, you can create a package on the fly in POS Entry. These types of packages are not set up in Package Inventory.

For more information, please see the ‘Creating a Package on the Fly’ tutorial in the POS documentation.

Setup Requirements

The following steps must be completed before setting up packages in your system.

  1. Create the following product types in the Prod. Type Master File selection (05-62):
    • ‘PKG’
    • ‘PKS’
    • ‘XX+’ (optional)

  1. Create the package items in Inventory Master File Inq/Maint (03-01). These are the items that are added to the sales transaction and they must have one of the product types set up in Step 1:
    • Use the ‘PKG’ product type if the price for each package sub-item (Inventory or Non-Inventory items) will be specified when setting up the package in Package File Entry & Maint (03-06-01). If no price is entered when setting up the package in that selection, the current Selling Price will pre-prompt during POS Entry (and can be modified if necessary.)
    • Use ‘PKS’ or ‘XX+’ if the total price for the package will be specified when creating the PKS package item number in Inventory Master (03-01, Field 18), or when using the Start Package button in POS Entry to create a package on the fly. Once the price of the package is entered, the system will automatically split the total price between the individual line items contained in the package. Remember, with this type of package, only prices for Non-inventory items can be entered for sub-items when setting up the package in Package File Entry & Maint.

Special Notes

  • The ‘PKS’, or ‘XX+’ package is based around the Selling Price of an item. In turn, the company earns a representative profit margin during POS Entry, which is reflected on the Sales Analysis reports. Make sure that you indicate, by branch, the field in the Inventory Master File that should be designated as the Selling Price for each item (‘Inv Price Code’ field of Branch Maintenance (30-02-02)). If the Selling Price field is not designated, POS Entry will automatically use Field 18 of the Inventory Master File.
  • Items with ‘PKS’, ‘XX+’, or ‘PKG’ product type do not have access to Field 13 (Vendor Cost) or Field 14 (Unit Cost) in the Inventory Master File.
