Introduction: Prodigy Bar Code Labels (03-33-07)

Overview

This selection is used to print barcode labels with a label printer (e.g. Datamax) or a printer that has label printing capabilities.

There are two different types of labels you can print with this selection: a standard label and an expanded label. The standard label contains the item number in Code 3 of 9 barcode or 128 barcode, and the expanded label contains the barcode, item number, description and price.

You can print labels by individual item number or for a specific branch, product type, department, or brand.

Convergence is optimized to print on either 1×2 inch or 1×3.5 inch labels.

IMPORTANT: Due to the constraints of the label and barcode, when using 1×2 inch labels, the item number cannot be longer than 10 characters. If it is, the barcode will not be readable by an RF gun.

Code 3 of 9 Setup

Code 3 of 9 (aka Code 39) supports a limited character set. Before printing barcodes, you should run the Validate Items for Barcode Printing selection (03-91-04). Item numbers that conform to the Code 39 standards also conform to the 128 standards.

Printing Methods

Thermal Transfer

We recommend this method, which uses a ribbon. To get the best quality ribbon and stock paper, refer to the printer’s manual looking for keywords such as Supplies or Media.

Direct Thermal

When you use Direct Thermal stock paper you do not need to use a ribbon. The printer will burn the paper to print data. We do not recommend this method because of print quality. As time passes, the barcode fades due to external heat and or simply age.

NOTE: You must use Direct Thermal Stock paper for this mode to work properly. Regular label paper will not work in this mode. See the manual for more details.

Label Size

The minimum label size is 0.75 inches wide by 0.50 inches long. The maximum size is 4.65 inches wide by 10.00 inches long.
