How To: Setting Up a Product Type (05-62)

Overview

This selection is used to set up product types for your company. The purpose of product types is to organize like products together, so that the performance of a specific product category can be reported on and then summarized.

Please refer to the ‘What you need to know about Product Types’ section of the Startup Implementation and Procedures Manual for more information about product types and how to use them in Tyler.

Special Notes

  • Non-Inventory Product Types must have ‘%’ as the third character.
  • Non-Sale Product Types must have ‘@’ as the first character and ‘%’ as the third character.
  • To make the print out easier to read, “dummy” product types can be set up as report dividers.

Step-by-Step

  1. Click the New button.

  1. Enter the Product Type Code in the Product Type field.

  1. In the Department field, enter a department that is set up in Depart Mast File (05-61). This assigns the product type to a department.

  1. In the Description field, enter a description for this product type.

  1. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

  1. Repeat steps 2-5 until all product types are set up.

  1. Click Ok.

  1. To change the description of an existing product type, click the product type in the listing, modify the description, and click Ok.
