How To: Adding a New Tax Code (02-18-12)
Overview
This tutorial describes how to assign an environmental fee to a tax code and product type. If there are no entries in the tax/fee table, the cursor positions to the ‘Tax Code’ field. If entries do exist, the cursor positions to the options prompt at the bottom of the screen. In this case, enter “A” at the prompt to add a new tax code.
Step-by-Step
- Click Add.
- In the ‘Tax Code’ field, enter the tax code for which an environmental fee will apply.
- Tax Codes are set up in Sales Tax Tables Entry (30-02-04).
- In the ‘Product Type’ field, enter the product type for which an environmental fee will apply.
- Product Types are set up in Product Type Master file (05-62).
- In the ‘Environmental Fee Item Number’ field, enter an Environmental Fee Item Number. See the Setup Requirements section on the previous page for details.
- From the ‘Fee Type’ drop-down list:
- Select “Fixed” if the environmental fee will be a fixed amount for this tax code/product type.
- Select “Percent” if the environmental fee will be a percentage of the item’s selling price.
- Enter the fixed amount or percentage. The fee amount entered in the ‘Env Fee %/$’ field depends on whether the environmental fee will be a fixed amount or a percentage of the item’s selling price. For example, if the fee will be a fixed amount of $10, enter “10.00” in this field. If the fee will be 8% of the item’s selling price, enter “8.00” in this field.
- Click the ‘Add’ button to add the new Environmental Fee to the table.
- Repeat steps 2-7 for all tax codes that you want to set up.
- Click the ‘Close’ button to close the window.
